What is the process in recycling batteries?

As we all know, most modern energy devices are equipped with batteries, and electronic waste has also increased at an alarming rate. One way to reduce electronic waste is to recycle batteries. This process usually involves collecting, sorting, and then recovering materials. There are several steps in battery recycling, and different types of batteries use different technologies. Read on to learn what processes these used batteries go through to be recycled and reused.

Collection and Sorting

The first stage of battery recycling is to collect and sort the old batteries. Because different types of batteries require different treatment processes to prevent cross contamination.

First, the external components of the battery, such as the casing, labels, and plastic parts, are removed. Then the battery is carefully sorted again according to the type of battery to ensure the effective recovery of the various materials present in different types of batteries.

Recycling Technology for Different Types of Batteries

The two most common types of batteries are alkaline batteries and lithium-ion batteries.

Alkaline Batteries: These batteries are commonly used in common household appliances. The process starts with mechanical separation to extract valuable metals such as steel, zinc, and manganese from the battery core. Then, chemical leaching is used to recover zinc and manganese. However, this process causes some pollution to the environment.

Lithium-ion Batteries: Lithium-ion batteries have become increasingly common in recent years and can be found in a variety of devices including smartphones and electric vehicles. The recycling process of lithium-ion batteries mainly includes steps such as discharge, mechanical crushing, grinding, and screening. The recycling process of lithium-ion batteries uses advanced recycling plant lines, which can not only efficiently separate valuable materials, but also be environmentally friendly and pollution-free.

If you want to customize a set of lithium-ion recycling plant lines, you can choose DOING. Henan DOING lithium-ion battery recycling machine, using a combination of crushing, screening, and airflow separation, can separate and recycle metals and black powder, diaphragms, etc. in waste lithium-ion batteries.

DOING lithium-ion battery recycling process:

1. Waste lithium batteries are first treated with NaCl solution and then sent to the crusher for processing into small pieces.

2. The material is transported to the crusher for further crushing into particles.

3. The crushed material enters the first-level drum screening machine to screen out 70%-80% of the black lumps.

4. The material enters the linear screen, and the upper layer of the linear screen separates the copper-aluminum-iron mixture, and the lower layer separates some black powder. The pipe on the linear screen separates the plastic diaphragm. The magnetic separator behind the linear screen separates the iron.

5. The material enters the secondary crusher for further crushing. Then it enters the secondary drum screening machine to separate a small amount of black powder. Then the copper-aluminum mixture enters the grinder to be processed into powder.

6. The material enters the final separation system to separate the remaining copper, aluminum and black powder.

The entire set of DOING lithium battery recycling machine is equipped with a cyclone dust collector to collect dust. No dust overflow, environmental protection standards meet.

So the general process of battery recycling is to collect and classify first, and then recycle and process according to their respective processes. If you have difficulties in recycling and processing large quantities of waste batteries, please contact Henan DOING. We are a manufacturer of lithium battery recycling equipment. Our lithium-ion battery recycling machine can meet the conventional recycling and processing of various types of lithium batteries and positive and negative electrode materials, with a recovery rate of up to 99%. The entire equipment adopts a factory assembly line process and PLC fully automatic control. Contact us now!
